The Good ItalianThe life and legacy of Joseph Petrosino, a legendary Italian-American police detective active in New York
The narrative is structured around three key perspectives: Petrosino’s role in a butcher shop robbery investigation, his involvement in the infamous Elizabeth Street barrel murder case, and how his legacy is remembered through the voices of his descendants.
Students conducted in-depth research and visited historical locations across NYC where Petrosino lived and worked—most of which have since been transformed. Using archival photos and historic visual references, we generated scenes via Midjourney, Runway, and ComfyUI, stitching together AI-generated visuals into a cohesive story.
The final piece reimagines a vintage-style documentary, merging history, memory, and speculative media to reflect on how digital tools can reconstruct forgotten narratives. It serves both as an homage to Petrosino and an exploration of new methodologies in cinematic storytelling through AI.
